This simple Geographic Information System (GIS) allows one to visualize and superimpose geoscience data (earthquakes, volcanoes, GPS data, seismic stations,...) and includes many tools to manage (distance, calculations, 3-D diagrams, localization...)
Technical aspects
The GIS is basically a folder containing all the data. The GIS ans a java applet (carte.jar) can be launched from an html page (monde.hyml). With a little experience the GIS can be enriched with case stuides for which additional documents can be added (geological maps, photos ...)
Organization of the installed folder
The software (encoded in Java) also works in applet mode on our servers. You can use the functions of the software online without having installed it.
In both cases (installed on your computer or online) the GIS needs à Java environment to run. Download and install Java environment if required : from the website Sun Microsystems or from our website /15 Mo (version 1.5.0.15-windows).

EduCarte version to download :
educarte.zip (full version, Winzip compressed without case studies)/ EduCarte v3.1.1X04 (31Dec2008)/ 400 Mo
Once the download is completed, unzip the archive. An 'Educarte folder will be created on your hard drive and the GIS will be ready to run. Click on 'monde.html'. This version corrects the problems regarding the display of speed vectors from some GPS beacons.
For partial umpdates :
Various data can be updated without downloading the entire EduCarte folder (seismicity, stations network...). just download the updated files and update the folder..
- liste of stations for the 'EduSismo' network / 31.12.2008 / > file 'edusismo.txt' to place in the folder 'items'
- seismicity catalogs / 31.12.2008 / > folder 'geodata.zip' to unzip and replace the folder bearing the same name in the previous version.
- Java applet : 'carte.jar' / 31.12.2008 / > java applet to replace the folder bearing the same name in the previous version.
Case studies for EduCarte (to unzip and place the content of the folder in the folder'educarte'). each case study contains a specific folder and an html file allowing the launch of EduCarte for this case study.
